If you have been around me for very long you have heard me say “I am a sales guy! Always have been … always will be! When done properly it is among the most honorable professions on the planet. Helping people and organizations buy products and services that improve their lives or grow their businesses is as cool as it gets!” Right behind being a sales guy in my book is training sales guys, and gals, to do it properly! So, What’s Next You Ask?
As I leave behind my position as the Director of Productivity at Keller Williams Southwest I am being asked by many “what’s next”? What mountain are you going to climb now? One person said “Good luck sir! Looking forward to hearing about your next adventure!” The fact that tomorrow I am turning 65 and no one is asking me if I am going to retire is most encouraging. That said … what’s next?
The “What’s Next” Backstory …
If you will allow me a quick recap of how I got here it will help frame the “What’s Next” story. It was May of 2015 when I first walked into the offices of Keller Williams Southwest to find out about getting my real estate license. I had been coaching a new agent, and friend, Jen Gowens as she was getting her real estate business built. I had always known that real estate was what I was going to do next but figured I would still be in my consulting business for another couple of years.
Chad St Jean was the Team Leader at KWSW and he walked me through what it would take to get a license and told me a little about Keller Williams as a company. We wrapped that conversation and he said to me “I have another opportunity you might be interested in”. I have always been one to hear someone out when they spout the word opportunity right? And he told me about the position in the office of Productivity Coach. Speaking, training, coaching and consulting with new agents as they built their real estate businesses. Everything I loved to do, and had been doing, for the last 25 years … and only 10 minutes from the house!
Long story short … he made me an offer and I accepted! I closed down my speaking and consulting business (except for a few select clients), got away from my 250+ days a year on the road and joined Keller Williams Southwest and the real estate industry!
In my almost 3 years with Keller Williams I have been blessed beyond measure to work for a truly “great company” with an amazing culture! Worked with an amazing staff and leadership team at KWSW. Partnered with some awesome vendors that serve the real estate community! Met rockstar real estate agents, inside and outside of KW, that serve their clients well in the buying and selling of property. Learned about what it means to be a great coach alongside some of the brightest coaching minds I have ever met! And … had the privilege of sitting front row and watching brand new, starry eyed real estate agents blossom into full fledged real estate rockstars building businesses and accomplishing goals beyond their wildest dreams! And so much more …
Why the Change?
Simple really! I came to KW to build a real estate business and now it is time. I have had the best “on the job training” possible for the last 3 years teaching, coaching and overseeing hundreds of transactions! I am a sales guy … did I mention that? And, it was time to turn the program over to someone that can take it to a new level. My friend and coworker Danielle Durocher said “the sign of a great leader is that they know when they have taken something as far as they possibly can and are willing to let it go so someone else can take it to another level”. I will let others decide if I am a great leader or not but I do agree it was time to let go!
So … What’s Next?
Sorry it took me so long to get here!
First priority is to build my own real estate business! I am looking forward to put the coaching and training I have been sharing with others into action serving my friends, family and my community as a professional realtor! Buying or selling a home is likely the largest single transaction most people will make in their lifetime. I want to serve them at the highest level and make it a world class experience for their family! So … if you know anyone that is thinking about buying, selling or investing in real estate I would love the opportunity to earn their business!
Next priority is to continue to invest in the growth of professionalism in the real estate industry. I love speaking, training and consulting and I intend to use that passion to serve real estate agents and to the companies that serve them as well.
And last, but not least, you don’t spend 25+ years speaking training and consulting with world class sales organizations without building some pretty strong relationships. A couple of them have tapped me on the shoulder to speak and consult from time to time. So, I might just get back on a plane or two from time to time if the weather is right, the destination is irresistible and Christie can go with me!
Thank You’s …
